Milpitas Police officers followed up on tips and contacted residents on the 400 block of Elm Ave. The daughter gave the victim's phone to police, saying she found it at the mall, according to reports. She denied knowing anything about a lost or stolen purse or wallet.

After officers left, the girl's parents questioned her again and searched the house, finding the missing purse and wallet, according to reports. The father determined the amount of cash his daughter had taken and spent and pulled the money from his own account to cover the theft. He brought the money and the items to the police department.
