Milpitas Parents Return Tourist's Stolen Purse, Money

Wallet, purse were found in daughter's room. Dad covers damages with his own cash.

An English tourist got her wallet, ID and purse back the day before she was to fly home after Milpitas parents found the items in their daughter's bedroom and returned them.

The father also withdrew money from his own account to cover money that his daughter had taken, according to Milpitas Police reports.

The episode happened June 5, when an English traveler left her purse unattended inside the Forever 21 store at the Great Mall. The purse was stolen, with the victim's wallet, ID and iPhone inside, according to police reports.

Milpitas Police officers followed up on tips and contacted residents on the 400 block of Elm Ave. The daughter gave the victim's phone to police, saying she found it at the mall, according to reports. She denied knowing anything about a lost or stolen purse or wallet.

After officers left, the girl's parents questioned her again and searched the house, finding the missing purse and wallet, according to reports. The father determined the amount of cash his daughter had taken and spent and pulled the money from his own account to cover the theft. He brought the money and the items to the police department.

I often wondered why parents don't suspect something when their kids come home with items that they say" they found," Kudo's to the parents in this story. More parents should be more aware of this problem.

Kudos to the parents for doing the right thing. I hope that she will be grounded for the entire summer and working around the house doing chores and yard work to pay back what she stole!
