Milpitas Policeman Receives National Honor

Officer Hansen honored for stopping a kidnapper.

Milpitas Police Officer Kenneth Hansen received regional recognition Thursday for his work last year in stopping a kidnapper who tried kidnap one student and entice two others into his car.

Hansen was honored by the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the American Society for Industrial Security International, at the group's 50th annual law enforcement appreciation event.

The group's members include security professionals, managers and directors of many Fortune 500 companies. Law enforcement was invited from around the Bay Area. Hansen was one of 34 individuals recognized for exceptional service.Β

Hansen was awarded for his actions on March 15, 2011, when he saw a suspect at the high school try to kidnap one student and draw two others into his car. Hansen followed the suspect in a car chase through neighboring cities, ending in Union City. Hansen then chased the man on foot and ended up by himself in a violent confrontation with the man.

The suspect was arrested after backup arrived.
