Milpitas Resident Dies in Fatal Car Accident Near Sacramento

Two men were driving through the town of Wilton on Sunday afternoon when they swerved into a tree. One died and the other survived.

While many fans were watching the Super Bowl on Sunday, two Milpitas residents were driving through a small town outside of Sacramento when they crashed into a tree.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver "for unknown reasons" drove onto the edge of the road, then overcorrected himself and swerved the other way—this time broadsiding the passenger side into a tree.

The driver died at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office identified the man as Turan Kumar Dutta, 31. He did not have a driver's license issued in the United States, according to CHP officer Michael Bradley. He is believed to be a citizen of India.

“Sources contacted stated Dutta was residing in Milpitas, California,” according to Carolyn Siegler of the coroner's office.

Another Milpitas resident, a 27-year-old man riding in the passenger side of the rented Nissan Versa, survived. He was taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries, including cuts on his neck and arms, according to Bradley.
