Milpitas Roads Mostly Safe from Drunken Drivers
The first two days of the annual Winter Holiday anti-DUI crackdown, yielded 60 arrests county-wide, down from 79 at the same time last year.
Of the 97 DUI arrests recorded in Santa Clara County from Friday to Sunday, just two occurred in Milpitas, sheriff's data shows.
The 97 arrests are down significantly from the same three-day period last year, Sgt. Jose Cardoza said in a news release. During the first three days of the winter crackdown in 2011, there were 113 DUI arrests.
During the anti-DUI crackdown, all regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts during the crackdown. In addition, funds have been devoted to multiple DUI/driver’s license checkpoints, multi-agency DUI task force operations and local roving DUI patrols, as part of this region-wide crackdown during the 19-day Winter Holiday Campaign.
