Milpitas SWAT Arrests Suspect over San Leandro Shooting

Police arrested a Milpitas man in connection with a shooting Friday night in the parking lot of a San Leandro Walmart. The victim survived.

San Leandro and Milpitas police worked together to arrest a man in connection with the shooting Friday night of another man in the parking lot of  on Hesperian Boulevard. 

Eric Sterling Ericson, 47, was arrested Saturday after a Milpitas SWAT team descended on his home in Milpitas and took him into custody. Information obtained by San Leandro detectives led to the arrest, according to Lt. Jeff Tudor, spokesman for the .

Ericson is in custody at the Santa Rita jail (area 4) under charges of attempted murder and a lesser charge of possession of marijuana. His court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday at the Hayward Hall of Justice.

Ericson was arrested in connection with the Friday night shooting of a 25-year-old San Leandro man. The man, who was shot in the neck and suffered a broken jaw, is expected to survive.

Around 9:15 p.m. Friday, officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim in the Walmart parking lot on Hesperian Boulevard.

When police arrived, they couldn't find the victim. However, they received a call shortly afterward from  about a gunshot victim who had been dropped off. 

The victim, whose name is not being released at this time, was taken to Eden Medical Center's trauma center in Castro Valley.

The investigation is being conducted by the San Leandro Police Department. Milpitas is not releasing any information at this time, according to Sergeant David Ostrander of the Milpitas Police Department.
