Over a Dozen Catalytic Converters Stolen

Thieves cut the converters from underneath cars to sell for cash.

Over a dozen catalytic converters have been stolen from underneath SUVs and pick-up trucks recently, according to a statement from the Milpitas Police Department. Toyota 4-Runners, SR5 Pick-up Trucks, and similar vehicles have been targeted. Catalytic converter thefts are a problem nationwide, and are being stolen for the valuable metals they contain, like rhodium and platinum.

The thefts occur overnight, and the department recommends that vehicle owners park their vehicle in an indoor area or on a well-lit, busy street if possible.

Anyone with any information regarding these thefts should call the Milpitas PoliceDepartment at (408) 586-2400. Information can be given anonymously by calling (408) 586-2500, or via the Milpitas Police Department website.
