Pedestrian Death on NB 680 Believed To Be Suicide

The death occurred early Sunday morning in Fremont.

A pedestrian death on northbound Interstate Highway 680 in Fremont early Sunday morning is believed to be a suicide, a Fremont police spokeswoman said today.

Around 12:25 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received reports of a possible body in the slow lane near the Washington Boulevard off-ramp. Several motorists had pulled over on the right shoulder nearby, according to the CHP.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Santa Clara County, where she was pronounced dead.

Bosques said investigators are still looking into the circumstances of the death.

Family members told police that the female victim had been intending to commit suicide, Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

All but one lane was closed as the scene was cleared, and all lanes were reopened at about 1:20 a.m., according to the CHP.

To speak with someone about suicide or depression, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-TALK (8255).
