UPDATED: Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Car Accident

Milpitas resident Myrla Martinez, who was hit by a car on Wednesday, has died from her injuries.

Services are being arranged for Myrla Martinez. The viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3323 Peralta Blvd. Mass is Friday at 10:30 a.m. at .

Myrla Martinez, 73, died Thursday after sustaining injuries from being struck by a car the day before while crossing the street. She was a Milpitas resident who attended activities at the Barbara Lee Senior Center.

Police say an 18-year-old Milpitas resident driving a blue 2000 Saturn SL1, four-door sedan crashed into Martinez at about 8:10 a.m. as she was crossing the street. The driver remained at the scene near the 1300 block of Calaveras Boulevard and Carnegie Drive.

Martinez sustained several injuries and was transported to a local hospital by paramedics, where she died the following day, according to the Milpitas Police Department. 

It is unclear if the driver was arrested or will face charges.

The case is still under investigation, said Sgt. David Ostrander. Witnesses are encouraged to call the Milpitas Police Department at 408-586-2400.
