Photo of the Day: Save Mart Stays Open Despite Giant Hole

The Milpitas Save Mart is still open for business despite a giant hole in the front doors where a car crashed into the store Friday afternoon.

Despite a large hole where the grocery store's front door used to be, the is remaining open for business.

Large sections of plywood are covering up the hole caused by a car that crashed into the front of the store just two days ago.

On Friday afternoon around 1:30 p.m., the San Jose Mercury News reports that a 1994 BMW drove straight into the front of the store at around 30-35 miles per hour. The car took out the front door, a checkstand and a freezer.

There were two men and a pit bull in the car. The driver was injured in the crash. His passenger, a white male in his 40s, fled the scene and was chased down by passers-by and police officers. He was arrested two blocks from the store.

The driver and two people who were inside the grocery store at the time of the crash were taken to the hospital for minor cuts caused by flying debris.
