Photo of the Day: Car vs. Fire Hydrant

Patch photographer James Tensuan happened to be driving by this scene in Milpitas Sunday night and caught it on camera.

Milpitas Police received a call at 7:53 p.m. Sunday night that a fire hydrant had broken at the corner of S. Hillview Drive and Los Coches Street, and water was erupting high into the air.

Lt. Steven Petrakovitz of the Milpitas Police said it was a hit-and-run accident in which a driver crashed into the fire hydrant, knocking it out, and then drove off. Police have no leads as to the driver or the vehicle responsible.

"It's just one of those things," he said. "It's unfortunate, but it happens."
