Police Arrest Christmas Day Catalytic Converter Thieves

A local resident witnessed two men trying to burglarize a neighbor's car on Christmas Day and called the police, who came immediately and caught the two thieves in the act of trying to steal the vehicle's catalytic converters.

On Christmas Day, just before noon, Milpitas Police officers arrested two men for attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle that was parked on the 1000 block of Camarillo Court.

An alert resident saw the suspects drive into the area and park next to a neighbor’s vehicle. The witness watched as both of the suspects got out of their car and started walking around the neighbor’s vehicle, and immediately called the Milpitas Police Department.

When officers arrived, one of the suspects hid in nearby bushes, while the other went back to his car.

Officers quickly caught both suspects. Evidence at the scene indicated the suspects were interrupted by the arriving police officers as they tried to steal the catalytic converter from the vehicle.

The suspects have been identified as Nhean Bing, 42, and Phal Bing, 38, both of Stockton. Both men were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted grand theft, possession of burglary tools, tampering with a vehicle, and conspiracy.
