Police Investigating Day Care Center Where Infant Was Found in a Closet

Already shut down by social services, things could get much worse for the day care operator.

When the California Department of Social Services found an infant in a closet strapped in a car seat at Stephanie's Day Care Center on April 25, they didn’t just suspend the facility’s license, they reported the incident to the Milpitas Police Department.

Police are looking into the matter and investigators will report their findings to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office where a final decision will be made on filing child abuse or child neglect charges against day care center owner Stephanie Newbrough.

The police department has not given a time frame of when it will finish its investigation.

Social Services intends to permanently revoke Newbrough’s license.
