Second Fatal Pedestrian-Auto Collision in a Week

San Jose resident Norma Nuñez, 45, died early Wednesday morning when a pickup struck her on Yosemite Drive.

On the same day that a viewing was scheduled for , 73, a Milpitas resident who died a day after being hit by a car while crossing the street, a similar collision occurred on Yosemite and South Hillview drives.

Early Wednesday morning, San Jose resident Norma Nuñez, 45, died in Milpitas on the street where she was hit by a yellow 1970 Ford F-100 pickup. The driver, only identified as a 44-year-old San Jose man, remained at the scene. Police responded at about 6:01 a.m.

This is the second incident in a week in which a pedestrian was hit by a car in Milpitas. On Feb. 16, Myrla Martinez was struck by an 18-year-old female driver from Milpitas.

Milpitas police have not confirmed if drivers in both incidents were released or arrested.  This is the third fatal accident this year in Milpitas involving a pedestrian.

Another fatal accident involving a pedestrian took place in San Jose on Tuesday evening. A 63-year-old man driving a 1998 Ford Explorer hit Keith Lusk, 23, while he was walking east across Monterey Highway below the Bernal Road overcrossing. Both men are residents of San Jose. The driver also remained at the scene. He was later questioned and released without charges. Alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, police said.
