Shooting on S. Main Street Prompts Closure of Zanker Elementary

A citizen called 9-1-1 Friday afternoon to report seeing and hearing a shooting in which a victim sustained a gunshot wound on S. Main Street. Two suspects believed to be involved are in custody, but the alleged gunshot victim is still missing.

A reported shooting Friday afternoon on South Main Street prompted Milpitas Police to close for approximately an hour while they searched the area for a shooter or shooters, and a victim that a witness saw sustain a gunshot wound.

At approximately 12:39 p.m. Friday, the Milpitas Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen reporting a shooting on the 1400 block of South Main Street. The caller indicated a subject had been shot.

The citizen reported seeing a gun and hearing the gun discharge. The witness had last seen the shooter, who was reportedly wearing all black, running westbound on Cedar Way from South Main Street.

The subject who had been allegedly shot was seen running to the rear of  at 1491 South Main St. Milpitas Police Officers responded to the area and located two subjects at the rear of Jerry’s Market. The two subjects were taken into custody without incident and a handgun was recovered at the scene.

The two subjects showed no signs of being the victim of a gunshot wound, but are believed to be involved.

was placed on lock-down while officers searched the area. Zanker Elementary was closed for approximately one hour and has since been reopened.

A gunshot victim has not been located and local hospitals have been notified of the incident.
