The sinkhole -- caused in part by the incessant rain this weekend -- was reported at 9:46 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Rainsoaked earth gave way Sunday and formed a large sinkhole in San Jose, forcing closure of Vinehill Road, near Camino Vista, the CHP reported.

The collapse -- caused in part by the heavy rains this weekend -- was reported at 9:46 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the road -- from 2101 Vinehill Road to Camino Vista -- would be closed until further notice.
