Subway Restaurant Robbed at Knife-Point

A male suspect robbed the Subway Restaurant on Serra Way Saturday night wearing a ski mask, hat, gloves and wig, and wielding a large kitchen knife.

On Saturday night, Nov. 26, the at 61 Serra Way was robbed by a male suspect at knife-point.

At 7:24 p.m., Milpitas Police received a call from Subway employees, reporting that an armed robbery had just taken place at the restaurant.

The employees said a male suspect - later identified as Daniel Banks, 39, a San Jose resident - had entered the store wearing a disguise that consisted of a neoprene ski mask, wig, hat and gloves had entered the store wielding a large kitchen knife. The suspect jumped the service counter and demanded money from the cash register.

The suspect then took the money from the register, jumped back over the counter and fled the store on foot.

Within two minutes, the first Milpitas Police officer arrived on the scene.

Witnesses in the area said they saw Banks run behind a business across the street, and proceed toward S. Main Street. Responding officers followed the witnesses' report and located Banks on S. Main Street near Corning Avenue and detained him.

The Subway employees and witnesses confirmed Banks' identity, as the man who had robbed the restaurant. Banks was then taken into custody.

All of this happened within four minutes of the Subway employees' call to the Milpitas Police.

"It is with the assistance from the witnesses and the quick response of the responding officers that this suspect was arrested within minutes of committing an armed robbery," said Sgt. David Ostrander.

Banks was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of armed robbery.
