Police SWAT teams and the FBI arrested a man at a home in Newark this afternoon, according to Newark police and FBI officials.

The joint operation between the FBI, Newark police and Union City police served a search warrant in the 37000 block of Birch Street around 3 p.m., according to Newark police.

By 6 p.m. a man had been arrested there and the operation had concluded, police said.

A neighbor in the 37000 block of Birch Street said her neighbor across the street was arrested after SWAT officers from various jurisdictions surrounded his home around 4:15 p.m.

The neighbor, who has lived on the block for 30 years, said the road was blocked off on both ends for an hour and a half with no pedestrian or car access.

She was told to stay inside her home where she saw SWAT teams from Union City and Newark, police cars and other unmarked cars come onto the block.

She said she heard loud booms that were apparently police projectiles aimed at her neighbor's home.

"It was a little surreal," she said. "It felt like watching a TV show."

She said her neighbor was eventually arrested after he had gone into his home and refused to leave when law enforcement arrived.

She said she has known the arrested man for 30 years who had lived on the block with his wife for as many years, along with their Doberman Pinscher dog.

"All the neighbors have been talking," she said. "We have no idea what he's been up to."

And the police ended up breaking this up because these great kids started throwing bottles at cars, yelling at passer byes, etc. nice "memorial". I've never seen a more disrespectful way of paying last respects. This group ended up acting like a bunch of hoodlums...nice send off for the dead. Pathetic.
