Teens Steal Car from Great Mall

Not old enough to drive, teens take car and damage it during police pursuit.

Three San Jose teens were cited or booked into juvenile hall for charges varying from stealing a car, hit-and-run and resisting arrest.

No photos or names are available, because of the ages of the suspects—two are 13, and one is 15.

Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, a Milpitas police officer spotted a silver 1991 Toyota Camry reported stolen from the Great Mall parking lot.

Officer Matt Miller spotted and tried to stop the car on South Abel Street. The car was later abandoned with three of the four occupants escaping on foot.

The car, which had not been placed into park, then hit another parked vehicle.

Milpitas police officers, including a member of the K-9 unit, searched for the suspects in a nearby apartment complex. The teens were taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

The owner of the stolen car, a 56-year-old man from San Jose, reported his car missing from the Great Mall on Tuesday at about 9:45 p.m.
