UPDATE: Fleeing Suspect Who Rammed Two Officers With Vehicle Identified

A fleeing suspect who struck an officer with her car and later tried to ram her way through police lines injured two police officers in San Jose Thursday has been identified and taken into custody, a police spokesman said.

The chase began at about 5:30 p.m. when officers in the department's Special Operations Metro Unit attempted to pull over a vehicle driven by 42-year-old San Jose resident Lisa Hernandez, for a code violation on Story Road, police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

Hernandez failed to yield to the officers, and tried to escape authorities. One of the officers was standing at the road, and tried to tell Hernandez to stop her car, but she continued trying to flee.

The officer attempted to use a Taser on Hernandez but was unsuccessful. The woman then hit the officer with her car, knocking him to the ground and injuring his knee. The officer was later transported to the hospital in a patrol vehicle.

Hernandez fled, and was located a short time later driving on Story Road. She fled again and after a brief chase police used their vehicles to box her in near the intersection of Galveston Avenue and Warfield Way.

Hernandez did not give up, and started ramming police cars trying to break through the enclosure. An officer's back was injured while she was ramming the patrol cars. That officer was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

Eventually the woman was removed from the car and taken into custody. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for unknown injuries and for evaluation.

Dwyer said Hernandez was booked on four counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, felony DUI causing injury, felony evading a peace officer in a vehicle, possession of PCP and for being under the influence of PCP.
