Teens Caught Taking Boxes Off Porches

A surveillance camera tipped off police.

Two teens were arrested Friday for stealing deliveries off residents' porches in Milpitas and around the South Bay after a surveillance camera led Milpitas Police to the suspects.

Khanh Nguyen, 18, of San Jose was booked into Santa Clara County jail on 11 counts of possession of stolen property, conspiracy, probation violation, theft, prowling and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to police reports.

The 16-year old boy, who is not being named because he is under age, was cited for three counts of possession of stolen property, conspiracy, theft and prowling, according to reports. He was released to his parents.

Milpitas Police tracked down the two suspects after a resident on the 2000 bock of Mesa Verde Drive reported deliveries stolen from the porch and provided surveillance video to officers. The recording showed the 16-year old taking a package from the porch and the suspects using a black, 1990s-model Honda Accord, according to reports. The video showed the suspects returning to the home minutes later and replacing the package.

Officers searched the neighborhood for the car and were able to identify the suspects inside from the video, according to reports. Police then searched the vehicle and Nguyen's home, and found packages addressed to other residents of Milpitas, San Jose and Sunnyvale.
