UPDATE: Victim in Saturday's Homicide Identified

The identity of the 18-year-old man found shot to death in the Milpitas Manor neighborhood in the early hours of Saturday morning has been revealed by police.

Milpitas Police issued a press release Tuesday identifying the victim in as David Benevidez, an 18-year-old Milpitas resident.

Benevidez's body was found lying in the street, bleeding from a single gunshot wound, on the 400 block of Chestnut Avenue in the neighborhood known as Milpitas Manor, shortly after 1 a.m. Police had responded to a report of a gunshot heard over on the 500 block of Heath Street, several blocks away, but did not find anything in that area.

The Milpitas Post quotes several residents of Chesnut and North Abbot avenues as saying they heard nothing out of the ordinary in the area around the time of the shooting, leading some to speculate that Benevidez was shot elsewhere - perhaps closer to the area of Heath Street - rather than on Chestnut Avenue, where he was found.
