Woman Breaks Arm in Great Mall Robbery

A teenage thief stole the 60-year old victim's cell phone.

A 60-year old woman broke her arm in the Great Mall parking lot after a teenage thief ripped the cell phone she was talking on out of her hand and ran away.

The San Jose woman, who is not being named, fell and broke her arm as a result of the April 27 robbery, according to Milpitas Police. She also injured both elbows and knees.

According to police reports, Milpitas officers responded to reports of a strong-armed robbery about 3:47 p.m. April 27. The victim told officers she was walking through the parking lot and talking on her cell phone when the thief grabbed her phone and took off.

A witness saw the robbery and gave police the license plate number and description of a white, 2000 Chevrolet Suburban used by the suspect, according to police reports. Police identified the suspect as a 16-year old from San Jose. She is not being named because she is a juvenile.

Police asked the suspect to come in for an interview and arrested her about 5:15 p.m. May 8. They also found her allegedly responsible for a commercial burglary at Great Mall's Burlington Coat Factory on April 22.

The suspect was booked in Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for robbery, burglary and conspiracy.
