$200 Million Cost Overrun on Milpitas Project

A major setback will delay the project completion for two years.

The rebuilding of Calaveras Dam in the hills above Milpitas has suffered a significant setback—one that will take an extra two years and $200 million to rectify.

The fix will be costly, the price tag is going up $200 million while the completion date of the project has been pushed back to 2017.

Calaveras Reservoir is the main back-up water supply to Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park. The system serves about 2.6 million customers in the Bay Area, including Milpitas. Undergound pipelines run through Milpitas, across the Valley and up the Peninsula.
