Special Meeting to Discuss School Board Vacancy

Open to the public, the special meeting of the Milpitas Unified School District Board of Education is to decide next steps to fill the vacancy left by Mike Mendizabal, who resigned on Monday.

No interim will be appointed on Thursday. The education code allows 60 days to complete the process from the resignation date.

Options for next steps are special election, which costs money, or an appointment process for the remainder of the term (two years) until the next regular scheduled election in 2012.   The position would be posted, applications accepted, and finalists would be interviewed by the board, with one appointed.
