Local Shelters Open Overnight During Cold Weather

Also, daytime warming areas have been established within the City of Milpitas during normal business hours at all public facilities.

A significant cold front is moving through the Bay Area including Milpitas. This freezing weather system starts today and will last through the weekend. Daytime warming areas have been established within the City of Milpitas during normal business hours at all public facilities. These facilities will serve as a refuge to get out from the significantly cold temperatures during the day. In the evening and after business hours residents can visit the following shelters:

  • Boccardo Reception Center 2011 Little Orchard St., San Jose- 50 beds

  • Former Sunnyvale National Guard Armory 620 East Maude Ave.,

  • Sunnyvale- 125 beds

  • Gilroy National Guard Armory 8490 Wren Ave., Gilroy- 100 beds

  • The Boccardo Reception Center uses a lottery system for beds. At the armories it is a first-come, first-served basis.
