Milpitas Marine Killed in Afghanistan

Stephen J. Dunning was killed while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Department of Defense released information Friday stating that Marine Staff Sgt. Stephen J. Dunning, 31, of Milpitas, was killed Thursday in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense has not yet released details as to how Dunning was killed, other than to say that he was conducting combat operations in the Helmand province when he was killed.

Dunning was assigned to the 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, which is normally based in Okinawa, Japan. His unit was sent to Afghanistan to support Operation Enduring Freedom.
