Milpitas Voters Could See Tax on June Ballot

City leaders Tuesday could make tax easier to pass.

City leaders might declare a fiscal emergency Tuesday night, making it easier for voters to pass a new tax in June.

The council will not decide on the tax on Tuesday. Instead, they will consider declaring a fiscal emergency for the city. Once the emergency is declared, the city will only need majority approval from resident voters — rather than the typical two-thirds affirmative vote — to pass a new tax. That tax is potentially marked for the June election.

  • An update from PG&E on the utility company’s gas pipelines through town. 
  • An update from city staff on the Milpitas budget. 
  • An update from Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority on Express lanes on SR 237 and Interstate 880, as well as the extension of Bay Area Rapid Transit to the South Bay.

The meeting will be 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 455 E. Calaveras Blvd.
