What to Expect at the Planning Commission Meeting Wednesday

Agenda includes permits for convenience store with alcohol and tobacco sales in Calaveras Square, auto dealership in Houret Square and a report on regulating mobile food trucks.

Milpitas planning commissioners make recommendations to the City Council and (sometimes final decisions) on items related to buildings, businesses and urban planning. This includes zoning amendments as well as development and conditional use permits for businesses.

Regular meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at Milpitas City Hall at 7 p.m.

Convenience store with beer, wine and tobaccoA conditional use permit for a 1,015-square foot store to sell packaged food, as well as beer, wine and tobacco for off-site consumption. The location of the business is the Calaveras Square shopping center, 148 W. Calaveras Boulevard, former site of the Avis Rent-A-Car. Proposed hours are 7 a.m. to midnight. The site is not located within 600 feet of a school.

Auto dealershipA conditional use permit for a 5,000-square foot auto dealership that includes 820-square feet for an indoor showroom. The location is 1840 Houret Court. Neighboring businesses include: Precision Welding, Encore Auto and Best Kitchen and Bath.

Tutoring center. A conditional use permit for a 1,792-square foot Chinese language tutoring center. The site, 1231 S. Park Victoria Drive, is located in the shopping center across the street from Christ Community Church of Milpitas. Proposed hours are 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. 

Research and development, manufacturing, assembly and associated offices. A conditional use permit to re-establish a discontinued plant at the end of 1980 Tarob Court. The location is on a 2.6 acre parcel with a 46,050 square foot single-story building. The site is within 400 feet of a residential area across from Capitol Avenue.

Report on permit processes for mobile food vendors. Staff research on how cities (San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Mountain View) regulate food trucks, ice cream cart vendors, etc. The city has attracted some new trucks, some which serve the tech companies during lunch and others which serve dinner at the old Mervyn's parking lot.
