POLL: Do You Support the City Manager's Raise?

The Milpitas City Council this week passed a pay raise of 2 percent for City Manager Tom Williams that includes a calculation for a cost of living increase going back three years.

We want to know what you think - do you agree with the Milpitas City Council's pay raise for City Manager Tom Williams, ?

Williams' new employement agreement includes a 2 percent pay raise, a cost of living adjustment calculated back three years, and a guarantee of 12 months of severance pay should he ever be let go. The terms of his employment were also changed from "at will" to "with cause."

Those in favor of Williams' raise argue that he has performed exceptionally in his job; he does his job without the help of an assistant city manager, which saves the City considerable money; and he hasn't had any pay raises or cost of living adjustments since he was hired in 2006.

However, many oppose the raise, since several other City employees were recently forced to take pay cuts of as much as 16 percent in order to save their jobs.
