More than 80 percent of Milpitas residents drive alone to work, according to the city's bike master plan.
Slightly more than ten percent carpool, and less than three percent take public transportation.
Most of the changes starting in July will affect VTA light rail and bus riders as well as Caltrain passengers.
VTA Light Rail: Major weekday and minor weekend schedule changes will be made on all three lines to improve schedule reliability. The afternoon express trains will be moved approximately 10 minutes later.
VTA bus schedules: There will be minor changes to schedules starting July 11.
Line 180- Great Mall/Main Transit Center to Fremont BART
On weekdays, the 10:22 p.m. northbound trip will be discontinued, and the 7:26 p.m. and 7:57 p.m. southbound trips will be combined into one trip leaving Fremont BART at 7:42 p.m.
Line 47- Great Mall/Main Transit Center to McCarthy Ranch
Minor weekday and Saturday schedule changes will be made. On weekdays, the 5:56 a.m. southbound trip will begin at Calaveras & Hillview at 6:01 a.m., and the 9:36 p.m. northbound trip will end at Calaveras & Hillview. On Saturday, the 8:10 a.m. southbound trip will start at 8:03 a.m. at Calaveras & Hillview.
Line 66- Kaiser San Jose to Milpitas/Dixon Rd. via Downtown San Jose
Minor weekday and weekend schedule changes will be made.
Line 46- Great Mall/Main Transit Center to Milpitas
Minor weekday and Saturday schedule changes will be made.
AC Transit bus fares: If you're heading into Fremont by bus, adult fares will increase August 1 by a dime, from $2 for a single ride to $2.10. Youth fares will increase by a nickel, from $1 to $1.05.
AC Transit bus schedules: Changes to schedules started on June 26.
Frequency made consistent at 60 minutes all day. Last trip departs Ohlone College, Newark Campus, at 7:22 p.m and continues through entire route to arrive at Fremont BART at 8:16 p.m. Partial trip departing Ohlone College, Newark Campus at 8:22 p.m. and going out of service at Union City BART discontinued.
Caltrain fares: From any Mountain View station to San Francisco, the one-way fare will increase from $6.50 to $6.75. The day pass goes up from $13 to $13.50.
Caltrain parking: Daily parking will increase from $3 to $4 and the monthly fee from $30 to $40.
Hybrid owners: Solo hybrid drivers will no longer be able to use the carpool lane starting July 1.
