There are seven more days to go until the June 5 Santa Clara County Presidential Primary Election. But those who want to cast their vote from home must request a mail-in ballot by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
As the request must be received -- not just postmarked -- today, voters should fax, or scan and email the ballot application, said Elma Rosas from the Registrar of Voters office. Voters can also drop off their application at the Registrar at 1555 Berger Drive, Building 2, San Jose.
They can print their application from the Registrar’s website.
Up till today, the Registar’s office has sent out more than 544,000 mail-in ballots to Santa Clara County voters, said Rosas. They have received more than 77,000 thousand, about a 14 percent return rate.
Already have a ballot? There are several locations around Milpitas and Santa Clara County to drop them off. Up until 8 p.m. next Tuesday, voters can drop off their ballots during business hours at . This Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 5, they can also drop them off at the McCarthy Ranch Market Park Lot (at the curve along 880 on 301 Ranch Drive).
The Registrar has a complete list of drop-off locations on its website. Those who want to vote at a polling place on election day, can also search for the location closest to them.
Rosas encouraged voters to send in their ballots early, as “if we receive ballots early enough, we can include them in the count right after 8 p.m. Tuesday,” she said. Results will be tallied up until 28 days after the elections, she said.
Voters should make sure to sign the back of their envelope. “The signature has to match the one we have in order to count the ballot,” said Rosas.
