Want to Be Mayor? Milpitas Opens Filing Period for Nov. Elections

The period to file running paperwork stretches from Mon., July 16 to Fri., Aug. 10.

Want to run for mayor or become a City Council member? The papers required to run became available Monday at 8 a.m. at the City Clerk’s office.

In the November 6 elections, Milpitas residents will elect one mayor to a two-year term and two councilmembers to four year terms.

So far, only one person has picked up the nomination papers needed to run for office, said Mary Lavelle from the City Clerk’s Office. No one has yet filed them.

Papers will be accepted until Friday, August 10 at 5 p.m. said Lavelle. If an incumbent does not file to run for re-election, then the deadline will be extended five days to August 15.

More information about the upcoming municipal elections can be found on the City of Milpitas’ website.
