What’s on the City Council Agenda?

Local crime, mobile home park safety, campaign and election changes, board appointments and more.

The Milpitas City Council and Redevelopment Agency will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Among items on the agenda (not in any particular order) are:

  • Health and safety: The City Council will receive a report on health and safety conditions in common areas at Friendly Village Mobile Home Park. (Contact: Dorsey Wiseman, 408-586-3246)

  • Road improvements: Authorize an agreement between the city and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority for improvements at the Milpitas Boulevard/Dixon Landing Road intersection. (Staff contact: Fernando Brava, 408-586-3328)

  • Crime: Hear a report on from Milpitas police chief. (Contact: Chief Dennis Graham, 408-586-2502)

  • Board appointments: Mayor Jose Esteves will recommend appointments for Arthur Sana to the Mobile Home Park Rental Review Board as an alternate member; Ed Blake, Jr., Christopher Salian and Echo Arthur to the Recycling and Source Reduction Advisory Commission; Sahil Sandhu and Cindy S. Wang to the Youth Advisory Commission as alternate members.

  • Park and street maintenance: Award a bid from East Bay Construction Company not to exceed $137,944 for at Tom Evatt Park, John McDermott Park, O’Toole Elms Park, and Park Metro. Also streetscape maintenance for Abel, Thompson and Machado streets and Thompson Court.

  • Redevelopment agency: Reject bids for pavement reconstruction or repair projects on portions of Sycamore Drive, Tasman Drive, McCarthy Boulevard, Cottonwood Drive and Buckeye Drive, because of . (Contact: Steve Erickson, 408-586-3301)

  • Youth Advisory Commission: Councilwoman Debbie Giordino, the council’s liaison to the commission, will deliver a report on current issues. (Contact: Giordano, 408-586-3032)

  • Campaign and election changes: Hear a report on a possible amendment to Campaign Finance and Disclosure Requirements for City Elections from Councilwoman Althea Polanski who also is Campaign Finance Task Force chairwoman. (Contact: Polanski, 586-3024)

  • Fee waivers: The council will consider a recommendation to waive review and permit fees of $876.82 for a Milpitas Rotary Club pumpkin patch and $1,425.77 for an Autumn Festival sponsored by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church

  • Transportation: Hear a report from Valley Transportation Authority staff regarding new rules for city representation on the VTA board going into effect Jan. 1, 2012.
