What's on the City Council Agenda?

New preschool program, commissioner appointments, RDA next steps, cell tower, investment portfolio status, odor report, public nuisance weed removal and more.

The Milpitas City Council and Redevelopment Agency are scheduled to convene Tuesday at 7 p.m. for its regular meeting. Items on the agenda (not in any particular order) include:

Preschool program. The city council will consider a proposal to contract with  to run a program at the  that would replace of the former preschool. Read the proposal, schedule and budget. (Contact: Parks and Recreation Director Bonnie Greiner, 586-3227)

Commissioner appointments. Mayor Esteves will recommend appointments of Robert Gill (Arts), Shirley Meirose (Community Advisory Commission), Leonardo Garcia-Araiza (CAC or Emergency Preparedness), Eladio Aoalin (Veterans), Allen Thomas (Veterans), and five youth to the Youth Advisory Commission. (Contact: Mayor Esteves, 586-3029)

Redevelopment agency next steps. Hear a report on the alternative voluntary program created by the state of California after the recent dissolution of RDAs. Would require annual contributions to local school and special districts–$13.9 million in FY 2011-12 and $3.3 million each subsequent year–in order for the RDA to continue to operate. (Contact: Finance Director Emma Karlen, 586-3145)

Silicon Valley BART extension project. Authorize an amendment between the city and VTA master agreement, which includes city work and clarification of cost sharing responsibilities. (Contact: Public Works Director Greg Armendariz, 586-3317)

Cell tower lease agreement. Authorize a 15-year lease agreement with Capitol Telecom for an 80-foot cell tower at  at $1,000 per month. (Battalion Chief Rob Mihovich 586-2826)

Investment portfolio status. Hear a report on the Milpitas Investment Portfolio Status Report for the quarter ending June 30. (Contact: Finance Director Emma Karlen, 586-3145)

Ranch Drive street resurfacing. Approve plans and specs, and authorize to bid for street resurfacing project. (Capital Improvement Projects Manager Steve Erickson, 586-3301)

Odor report. Hear the June and July odor complaint report. (Contact: Utility Engineer Kathleen Phalen 586-3345)

• Weed removal/public nuisance. Public hearing and resolution on properties in Milpitas to be charged a fee on their assessment tax for weed removal by the county Department of Agriculture and Environmental Management. (Contact: Fire Marshall Albert Zamora 586-3371)

Contract for consulting services as Fire Prevention Inspector (not Fire Marshall as we previously stated). Retired city employee  to contract with city as a consultant. Contract is for one fiscal year not to exceed $62,400. (Contact: Fire Marshall Albert Zamora 586-3371)
