Milpitas High's Third Annual Halloween Theatre Opens Friday

Proceeds from the Theatre will support the Milpitas Food Pantry and the Milpitas High Theatre.

Visit Milpitas High School this weekend, and you might find a scary puppeteer holding a human puppet and an Amazonian woman with clubs.

The third annual Haunted Theatre, presented by the Milpitas High School Theatre Workshop class, will happen this weekend at the MHS Theatre.

The 30 Theatre Workshop students have been working on constructing the Haunted Theatre for the past month. They came up with the ideas for each section of the Haunted Theatre and have created the props, costumes and sets.

“My workshop students developed the overall concept,” said Kaila Schwartz, the theatre teacher at MHS. "They are implementing their designs without spending any money.”

Designing and producing the Haunted Theatre is taking the education of these students to the next level, said Schwartz.

"The point [of theatre] is to move an audience; to inspire, instruct, caution, provoke, and entertain," she said. "I've been trying to teach my students that theatre can happen -- and it can be artistic -- without spending any money.”

The Haunted Theatre will be open to the public Friday night from 7 pm to 9 pm, and Saturday night from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.

Admission is $5 per person or $3 and two cans of food for the Milpitas Food Pantry. Proceeds will go to the Milpitas Food Pantry and to support the MHS Theatre.

Last year the Haunted Theatre collected six overflowing bags of canned goods for the Milpitas Food Pantry.
