Milpitas High Student Kathleen Vu Receives $2,000 Scholarship

MHS senior is one of three recipients for a Human Rights Scholarship from the Santa Clara County Service Center Council.

Even in the face of the current state of education, senior Kathleen Vu is unfazed.

The high school student wants to become an elementary school teacher and has been accepted to UC Santa Cruz. She was awarded a scholarship of $2,000 to help get her there.

Santa Clara County Service Center Council held its annual awards dinner Thursday night, and Kathleen was one of three students in the county to receive the SCCSCC Human Rights Scholarship.

The Santa Clara County Service Center coordinates and communicates between the many California Teacher Association chapters throughout the county, says SCCSCC chairman John Lindner.

"It's our way of saying thank you to our members for their work both in the association as well as with their students," Lindner says.

There are 33 chapters within Santa Clara County, including the Milpitas chapter.
