Milpitas Thumps Carlmont, Wins Michael De Jesus Baseball Classic
Milpitas High boys varsity baseball win the championship game over Carlmont High, 4-1.
On Saturday, Milpitas and Carlmont high schools came into the championship game with identical 2-0 standings. The Trojans needed only the first inning to prove who would come out on top. A harbinger of things to come was Alex Herrera stealing and scoring at home plate. The Trojans walloped the Scots for 4 runs in that inning, then settled back under freshman Ronnie Reed's pitching to end the series.
The baseball classic is in memory of Michael de Jesus, a shortstop at Milpitas High who died in 2005 at the age of 18 from a shooting at a party in San Jose where he was an innocent bystander.
