Randall Elementary Seeks Volunteers to Help Students Learn to Read

Randall Elementary's new program, 'Raising Randall Readers,' aims to give extra encouragement to students who need help learning to read. The program seeks volunteers to sit and read with students one or two mornings per week on campus.

is currently seeking adults to help the school achieve a big goal - teaching all students how to read, and instilling a love of reading in all.

The school's new "Raising Randall Readers" program was recently designed as a precursor to the "Reading Counts" program, and to help students who need a little extra encouragement in learning to read, so they can be successful in school.

In order to accomodate all students who need the extra help, the program is seeking volunteers to sit and read with students in the school's library two mornings per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15-8 a.m - though, according to the program's website, volunteers who can only give one morning per week are welcome too.

"We have quite a few openings for volunteers to keep up with our excited, growing interest from our students," said Robert Jung, president of the Randall Parent-Teacher Association.

In order to volunteer for the program, adults need to fill out and sign a District Volunteer form, provide a copy of their driver's license and proof of TB test clearance, and pass a background check.

"This is a perfect opportunity for volunteers to directly make a difference in a child's life," the program's website says. "Help instill a love of reading with our students and help build a foundation of success for the future."
