Dr. Karl Black will have a permanent mark on his record, after new emails surfaced alluding to an intimate relationship with a principal.

At a closed session meeting Tuesday, the school board discussed actions up to and including the dismissal of Superintendent Karl Black.

Black, who is , is on paid administrative leave.

The board concluded that he inappropriately used district resources—the email system—when he was expected to be conducting district business.

But the board also stated he violated the district's Code of Ethics:

The Governing Board expects employees to maintain the highest ethical standards, [and] to follow district policies and regulations. Employees' conduct should enhance the integrity of the District and the goals of the educational program. (Board Policy 4119.21)

The board opted to issue a two-page statement of reprimand and disapproval that will be a permanent part of his employment record.

Black's contract was to end in about 30 days. The statement says, "but for the short amount of time remaining on his contract, this board would move to dismiss Dr. Black for cause. ... the board has determined it is not in the best interest of the district or the community it serves to expend the time, energy, effort or financial resources, especially in this time of severe budget cuts, to attempt to alter or modify the provisions of that contract."
