School Board Agenda: Aug. 23

Major reports and updates by the Milpitas Unified School District Board of Education include redevelopment and seismic safety of buildings.

The  Board of Education public session starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Items on the agenda include the following:

• Redevelopment agency update. A report on the impact of the state's intention to dissolve local redevelopment agencies and what happens to the pass-through funds that go to the school district.

Summer school update. A report on the 2011 summer school program with principals from the various sites.

School budget update for 2011-12. To be discussed is establishing a new strategic fund and to maintain a certain amount in the building fund for emergencies.

School attendance rates. Disclosure of student attendance for every school in district. The comparison chart dating back to 2002 is in the board packet. Rates have consistently hovered at 96 percent and above.

Seismic safety report of school buildings. A 150-page report from a consultant hired to evaluate the safety of school buildings in the event of an earthquake is now available.

First day of school starts Monday.
