BOYS/GIRLS BASKETBALL: A Night Against Fremont

Boys and girls teams squared off against Fremont on Friday night. Girls varsity won, 47-32. Boys varsity won, 52-37.

The Milpitas High School varsity girls basketball team won its fourth consectutive game Friday night, with a victory over Fremont High School, 47-32.

"Our defense dominated the contest, starting with a 16-10 for the first quarter," Milpitas High head coach Klint Chang said.

Captain of the team, Joann Chau (13), scored 16 points and made five out of six buckets at the free-throw line. Sydnie Turner (25) contributed seven points that night.

Mehreen Khan (22) scored six points, while both Julia Regalado (24) and Jalaena Bumagat (33) had five-point buckets.

Milpitas is 13-10 overall and 9-2 in El Camino play. The Trojans are in second place, behind undefeated Saratoga High.

The varsity boys basketball team won its fifth game in a row last Friday, defeating Fremont High School, 52-37.

The Trojans improved to 9-2 in SCVAL El Camino division play. The Trojans beat first-place Mountain View High, 54-45, on Feb. 1. Just one game back of Mountain View in the standings, Milpitas will need its first-place rival to lose at least one of its final two games this week to have a shot and at a share of the league title.

The final game of the year is Friday against Santa Clara High School.
