Three Milpitas Schools Named "Distinguished"

Local elementary schools make this year's state list.

Anthony Spangler Elementary, Joseph Weller Elementary and William Burnett Elementary all were named to this year's list of California Distinguished Schools, released today, Thursday.

To qualify, schools had to excell at state Academic Performence Index standardized testing and show progress on closing the achievement gap between students.

The three schools, all part of Milpitas Unified School District, join dozens around the state in receiving the recognition. See the list and read more about it at the California Department of Education's webpage

Of course I am disappointed to see the omission of Pomeroy Elementary. That is the best school I have ever seen. It is orderly, clean, well organized, safe, an excellent learning environment for a broad range of students from diverse cultures, languages, backgrounds and abilities. Dr. Knechtel has done such a wonderful job in leading that school to academic excellence; the teachers there have distinguished themselves in so many ways, their achievements deserve generous recognition for a job well done. Yes, but you cannot help but to proud of Weller School, the Staff and students for everything they have accomplished over the years. Everyone has and continues to work hard and stay dedicated. We really need to teach the students because many do not get it at home, unfortuneately. It shows that Title 1 schools can achieve just as well. Thank you, students, parents and staff for our success.

Great! How do kids get involved? Is there a phone number or email address to contact?
