Bay Area Residents Torn Between Watching Giants Game, Presidential Debate

Game 7 of the NLCS begins at 5:07 p.m., and the presidential foreign policy debate begins at 6 p.m.

What are you watching tonight?

That might seem like an obvious question to some, with the San Francisco Giants playing in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series -- but the Giants have some serious competition, and it isn't from the opposing dugout.

The final debate between President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney is happening tonight, too, and many plan to flip back and forth between the two events.

Angelo Jeffrey, 26, of San Francisco, said he will be at home watching the Giants but also monitoring the debate to see if the candidates say anything noteworthy.

Francesca Cole, 23, of San Francisco, who was wearing an orange scarf on her way to work today, will be inside AT&T Park for Game 7.

"Otherwise I would be switching between the two," she said.

Alvaro Soria, 33, of Berkeley, said the choice for him is easy -- he will watch the Giants game at a restaurant.

Soria said he was tuned in for Game 6 on Sunday, in which the Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1.

"It was exciting to watch," he said.

Even some attending pre-planned debate watch parties will have their attention divided.

At one such gathering, at the San Francisco Democratic Party headquarters at 2278 Market St., the debate will be shown on a big screen, but there will also be a TV showing the Giants game, spokesman Alec Bash said.

It is the third and final presidential debate, and the focus will be on foreign policy. The debate begins at 6 p.m.

Game 7 of the NLCS between the Giants and Cardinals begins at 5:07 p.m., with the winner moving on to the World Series to take on the American League champions, the Detroit Tigers.
