Ames was battling for the rebound when the injury occurred. He was transported to the hospital to have the cut checked out as a precautionary measure.

Milpitas led by two points at the half before opening things up in the third quarter.

Ahead 49-41 after three quarters of play, the Trojans went onto win the league bout by double digits.

The girls team was upset 41-45 in the first game of the night by an upstart Santa Clara team.

Tightly-contested throughout, the game was tied going into the halftime break at 22. Milpitas took a two-point advantage going into the fourth quarter before a late game surge tipped the games momentum and the eventual win into the host teams corner.

Santa Clara fell by 12 points to Milpitas in the schools first meeting earlier this year.

The Trojans finish the regular season with a 13-11 record overall and a 9-3 mark in Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division play.

Finishing in second place, Milpitas and first place Saratoga High—the Falcons ran the table and went 12-0 in league play—will both move on to next week’s Central Coast Section playoffs.

Playoff schedules and seedings will be announced Sunday night.
