Milpitas residents were among the approximately 43,000 runners who officially ran the Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco on Sunday morning.

Runner James Bell clocked his race at 58:46, coming in at 1,409 overall.

The fastest female runner representing Milpitas was Lauren Crunk at 1:21:14. As part of her training, she ran up the infamous Hayes Street Hill on Friday "just to see what I was up against," she said.

Crunk started running last October and began entering races. It was her first time at Bay to Breakers. "I thought it was hilarious," she said of all the costumes, although she did not dress up, except for a sparkly headband.

She said she saw some runners make it to the finish line and, instead of crossing, go back the other way.

Crunk ran the race on her own. She and her mother had considered taking Caltrain, but ended up driving.

Michael Chrabaszcz and his son, Steven, took BART up to the city and ran the entire race.

"I'm just glad the weather held up," said Chrabaszcz, who said a little drizzle was the worst he experienced. "It's a lot of fun. A lot of people with their families together."

David and Lillian Blume, who've run the race a couple of times in the past, decided their kids, ages 8 and 10, were old enough to participate. Together, the family crossed the finish line at two hours and 23 minutes.

"It gave them a chance to see the city," said Lillian Blume. "We had been practicing doing walking exercises in the evening trying to prepare them for it."

Though most participants ran Bay to Breakers simply to have fun, here's how Milpitans stacked up in the 12K:
