ICC Table Tennis Team Emerges from U.S. Open

Junior players take home ten medals after competing this weekend in Milwaukee with international table tennis players.

The young players of the brought home ten medals from the U.S. Open in Milwaukee, June 30-July 4. 

"We are really, really happy," said Rajul Sheth, director of sports and recreation. While top players, world ranked Asiel Hsing and Lily Zhang did not attend the event, another six or seven junior players stepped up to the plate. 

"We have a lot of hidden stars who have worked with us for many years," he said. "All the coaches are very happy."

With the results from the U.S. Open, he said they plan to send a team of four or five to the Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in Vancouver, Aug 18-21.

Krish Avvari: 11 year old lost to top seed Harmeet Desai of India 3-2 in Junior boys singles round of eight. Harmeet is currently ranked 35 in the World in Juniors under 18. Harmeet finally won Junior boys title.

Xin Zhou: The new ICC coach lost to top seed Thomas Keinath 4-3 in men's singles in round of eight. That was the only tough match for Keinath before he reached finals as he won his quarter final & semi final matches 4-0. Keinath eventually took home the Men's singles title.

Isabel Chu: In Junior Girls singles main draw she lost to India number one cadet girl 3-2. After leading 2-1, she had a match point in fourth and lost the game 11-13.

Maggie Meng Tian: The ICC coach lost to Mari Yamamoto of Japan 4-3 after leading 8-3 in decider in Women's singles round of eight.
