At the end of last night's victory over the Washington Nationals, the San Francisco Giants appeared to finally, with just 45 games left in the regular season, have solidified their starting line-up. But today, one of the stars of that line-up, left fielder Melky Cabrera, will have to sit out the rest of the season after testing positive for testosterone, a performance-enhancing substance.

According to an article on MLB.com, Cabrera, this year's All-Star MPV, was suspended for 50 games on Wednesday by Major League Baseball. By testing positive for a PES, the second-leading hitter in the National League is in violation of MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

"My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used," Cabrera said in a statement issued by the MLB Players Association. "I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down," said Cabrera.
