Milpitas Youth Soccer Club: Tigers vs. Crew

Milpitas Tiger and Milpitas Crew had their first official game of the fall season on Saturday at Dixon Landing Park.

Two Milpitas Youth Soccer Club competitive teams battled it out at  on Saturday.

In their white uniforms, under 10 boys team FCM Tigers outmaneuvered the blue-outfitted FCM Crew, 2-1.

“We’ve been working a lot on ball control and movement as far as foundation of passing,” said assistant coach Tom Brown of the Tigers. “The basic fundamentals of this sport come down to ball control, that’s what we really wanted to see.”

From the start of the whistle, Tigers controlled the first half of the game with their passing and communication on the field. The Tigers handled the ball aggressively, doubling opponents and sliding to kick the ball loose from the FC Crew. 

It was in the first half when Tigers' Jose Solis was fouled and given the opportunity for a kick outside the penalty box near the sideline kicking it over the defenders and goalie himself for a 1-0 lead.

“I felt really good scoring the goal, I knew what I was doing,” said the forward/midfielder. 

With the Tigers in the lead, the Crew used their substitutions trying to stop the Tiger from further dominating the game. 

Brown wanted his team to not think of the score. “For us it’s an emphasis to play hard, play strong and play fair," he said.

During the halftime break, the Crew rallied together. The Crew took control of the game and players from both teams were elbowing and falling to the ground.

In the second half, a Crew player kicked the ball into the goalie's chest and bounced back in another Crew player creating a straight shot into the goal making the score 1-1.

In the closing minutes of the second half, Solis of the Tigers was fouled within the penalty box; the referee called the foul and awarded the Tigers with a penalty kick. Solis booted the ball to the right post faster than the goalie could react marking the final score 2-1. Solis scored two goals in the game. 

Next Saturday at noon, the FCM Tigers square off with the Fremont Pedators MVLA at Gardner Bullis School, 25890 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills.  

Also next Saturday at 1:30 p.m., FCM Crew will play the Almaden Mercury at Bret Harte Middle School, 7050 Bret Harte Drive, San Jose.
