Creek Cleanup Saturday

Jump on it: sign-up now and join a volunteer effort for International Coastal Cleanup Day.

Make Milpitas' waterways a better place. Volunteers will gather this Saturday morning to clean up three creeks–Coyote Creek, Lower Penitencia and Berryessa.

They are cleaning up litter as part of International Coastal Cleanup Day. More than 40 cleanup sites are located throughout Santa Clara County.

All events start at 9 a.m. and last until noon.

For Coyote Creek volunteers, meet at the McCarthy Ranch Trail Head.

For Penitencia Creek volunteers, register online and meet at the Serra Center parking lot.

For Berryessa Creek volunteers, meet at  on the side closest to Paseo Refugio. Look for the city's white trucks and an event coordinator.

County officials advise volunteers to wear long pants, sturdy shoes, gloves and sunscreen.

For those who won't be in Milpitas on Saturday morning, volunteers are needed along creeks in Mountain View, Santa Clara, Campbell, Los Gatos and San Jose, too.

Visit the cleanacreek.org website, where potential volunteers can check which sites still need signups, and find contact information on how to make a reservation.

The website also has a link to a waiver form, that must be filled out and turned in to site coordinators on Saturday morning before cleanup work begins.

A resource fair will also be held from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the . Bring your old medications for safe disposal and trade in your mercury thermometer for a digital one.
