Here's a few places around the Bay Area you can help spread some holiday cheer.
, Milpitas
Mission: "Distribute emergency food and offer food assistance to more than 3,500 low- and fixed-income people." The pantry mostly serves families with children, seniors, and the homeless. The closet provides garments ranging from school uniforms to career apparel.
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday evening 6 pm to 8 pm, Saturday 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Closed Fridays and Sundays.

, Palo Alto
Mission: "To provide quality senior living communities, encompassing housing, assisted living, and social and health care services. We enable seniors with different needs and abilities to age with dignity, regardless of their means." More than 580 residents live at the nursing home.
Need: There is a long list of ways volunteers can help, from playing chess with the residents to playing piano for them. Additionally, they are looking for volunteers to celebrate New Year's day with the seniors from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Mission: "We provide a safety net so independence and self-sufficiency can be restored and maintained. Our clients may be a young, working poor family or an elderly person looking for companionship."
